Flights at Dubai International Airport were diverted after a drone attack caused a fire near the airport, raising security concerns across the Gulf region. Authorities in the United Arab Emirates confirmed that some aircraft were redirected to nearby airports as a precaution to protect passengers and airport staff.
Officials said several flights were sent to Al Maktoum International Airport while emergency teams assessed the situation. The airport, which is among the busiest in the world, temporarily suspended some operations to ensure safety. The Dubai Civil Aviation Authority stated that flights were paused as a preventive measure, though it did not immediately confirm when normal operations would fully resume.
The incident comes amid rising tensions in the Gulf region. Several neighboring countries, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, also reported intercepting drones and missiles during the same period.
Meanwhile, authorities in Abu Dhabi responded to a separate incident involving a missile that reportedly struck a civilian vehicle in the Al Bahyan area. According to the city’s media office, the attack resulted in the death of a Palestinian individual.
Regional tensions have increased following military developments earlier this year. Iran has argued that Gulf states hosting United States military bases could become targets after joint air strikes were carried out against Tehran on February 28. However, several civilian locations across the Gulf have also been affected in recent incidents.
Security forces across the region remain on high alert as authorities continue to monitor the situation. Aviation officials and emergency teams are working to ensure passenger safety while restoring normal airport operations as soon as possible.
