The United Arab Emirates is on course to become one of the world’s top destinations for tourism employment, with nearly one million people expected to be working in the sector by the end of 2025. This forecast comes from the latest Economic Impact Research published by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC).
According to the report, the UAE’s travel and tourism industry is projected to support over 925,000 jobs this year alone, reflecting a strong rebound and consistent growth since the pandemic. This increase of more than 26,000 positions from 2024 signals the country’s continued investment in tourism infrastructure and services.

Visitor spending is also reaching unprecedented levels. WTTC estimates suggest international tourists will spend AED 228.5 billion in 2025—an increase of 37% compared to 2019. Combined with domestic travel, which is expected to hit AED 60 billion, the total contribution of tourism to the UAE’s economy is set to rise to AED 267.5 billion, almost 13% of the national GDP.
Julia Simpson, President and CEO of WTTC, credited the UAE’s long-term vision and policy frameworks—like the Tourism Strategy 2031—for driving this progress. She noted that smart infrastructure, efficient visa systems, and world-class hospitality were helping the country set new benchmarks in tourism.
Abu Dhabi is playing a leading role in this transformation, with major projects such as the Guggenheim Museum, Harry Potter-themed attractions, and a Disney resort all in development. The WTTC expects the sector to employ over one million people and contribute nearly AED 288 billion by 2035.
