US President Donald Trump is once again making headlines, this time for his ambitious plan to build a massive new ballroom and office wing at the White House.
In October 2025, the East Wing of the White House a 123 year old structure was torn down within days to make room for a new 90,000 square-foot addition. The project, estimated to cost $300 million, is being funded entirely by private donors. The new space will reportedly feature a banquet hall large enough for 1,000 guests, as well as additional offices and event facilities.
The scale of the project has left many architects and experts puzzled. They note that the addition is larger than the entire main White House mansion, which is about 55,000 square feet. Some have questioned the need for such a grand space and pointed out that the cost per square foot far exceeds typical government construction budgets.
The ballroom’s classical design will match the White House’s historic look. Created by McCrery Architects, the interior will include gold and crystal chandeliers, gilded Corinthian columns, a coffered ceiling with gold inlays, arched windows, and a white marble floor.
While details about the offices and other rooms remain limited, the lavish design has sparked both admiration and criticism. Supporters say it reflects Trump’s vision for grandeur and tradition, while critics argue it symbolizes excess and self-promotion.
Regardless of opinion, one thing is clear Trump’s ballroom will be one of the most extravagant additions in White House history, blending luxury, politics, and controversy under one golden ceiling.
