US President Donald Trump has welcomed Hamas’s indication of a “positive spirit” in response to a US-backed proposal aimed at securing a ceasefire in Gaza.
Speaking to reporters on board Air Force One on Friday, Trump mentioned the possibility of reaching a truce agreement as early as next week. However, he noted he had not yet received a detailed update on the ongoing negotiations.
In separate remarks, Trump said he planned to discuss Iran-related matters with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He claimed Iran’s nuclear programme had been dismantled but acknowledged that Tehran might seek to resume its nuclear activities.
Meanwhile, Hamas has stated it is ready to start discussions aimed at halting the fighting in Gaza without delay.
Earlier this month, the White House and the US State Department held separate press briefings highlighting the Trump administration’s efforts to address the Gaza conflict, reform the tax system, and enhance national security.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt reaffirmed Trump’s commitment to securing a ceasefire and ensuring the safe release of hostages held by Hamas. She attributed the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza to Trump’s diplomatic efforts, saying that continuous communication with Israeli officials is part of the administration’s peace strategy.
Leavitt added that President Trump remains actively involved and wants the conflict to end quickly and peacefully. His team continues to coordinate relief efforts while pushing for a long-term solution.
