A big legal case has been filed in the UK against the famous company Johnson & Johnson. The company is accused of selling baby powder that may have contained asbestos, a harmful substance linked to cancer.
Around 3,000 people have joined this claim. They say Johnson & Johnson knew about the issue for many years but still kept selling the product. The case is based on old company memos and scientific reports that have recently come to light.
According to the lawsuit, the company was aware since the 1960s that the talcum powder it used might have small amounts of dangerous minerals called tremolite and actinolite. When these minerals are in a fibrous form, they are considered asbestos, which can cause serious diseases like lung cancer and mesothelioma.
The lawyers claim that even though the company knew this, it never gave any warning labels on its baby powder bottles. Instead, Johnson & Johnson continued to promote the product as pure, gentle, and safe for babies through strong marketing campaigns for decades.
The case has been brought by KP Law against Johnson & Johnson and its related company Kenvue Ltd. Many of the people involved in the lawsuit say they developed health problems after using the powder for years.
However, Johnson & Johnson has denied all accusations. The company says its baby powder is safe and that it never knowingly sold a product containing asbestos.
This legal fight could take a long time, but it has once again raised big questions about trust, safety, and honesty in the products people use every day especially for babies.
