Authorities in Sharjah have dismantled an illegal water bottling operation that was falsely selling regular tank water as Zamzam. The illicit activity was discovered at a residential property during routine inspections conducted by Sharjah City Municipality, in cooperation with its Control and Health Safety departments, as reported by Khaleej Times on Wednesday.
Municipal officials became alert when they observed unusual vehicle movements transporting bottled water from a house. Upon inspection, they found plastic bottles and boxes labeled as Zamzam water being filled in unsanitary conditions. One individual was arrested at the scene.

Further investigation revealed that the water was being marketed online and sold at inflated prices. Financial documents tied to RT Mineral Water Trading Company—a licensed business owned by the suspect—were also uncovered. Authorities believe the company was used to issue fake invoices and mislead customers.
Legal and administrative action has been initiated, and the company’s license has been revoked by the Department of Economic Development. The residence used for the operation has been sealed, and all counterfeit products confiscated.
Sharjah Municipality has handed the suspect over to police and reminded the public to report suspicious practices to help protect health and consumer rights.
