Passenger Train Derails in Mexico

A tragic train accident in southern Mexico has left at least 13 people dead and many others injured. The incident happened when a passenger train partially derailed while traveling through a curved section of track.

The Interoceanic Train, which connects the states of Oaxaca and Veracruz, went off the rails near the town of Nizanda. The Mexican Navy confirmed the accident and shared details about the casualties.

At the time of the crash, the train was carrying 250 people, including nine crew members and 241 passengers. Officials said that 13 passengers lost their lives, while 98 people were injured in the accident.

Emergency teams rushed to the scene soon after the derailment. Medical staff treated the injured on site before transferring many of them to nearby hospitals. Authorities reported that 139 people were out of danger, while 36 injured passengers were still receiving medical care.

Rescue workers worked for hours to help trapped passengers and secure the damaged train cars. Families of the victims gathered at hospitals and nearby areas, waiting anxiously for news about their loved ones.

Officials have not yet shared the exact cause of the derailment. However, early reports suggest the train lost balance while passing through a sharp curve. Investigators are now examining the tracks, train condition, and safety systems to understand what went wrong.

The Interoceanic Train is an important transport link in the region and is often used by local travelers. Following the accident, authorities temporarily suspended services on the route to ensure safety checks are carried out.

Government officials expressed condolences to the families of those who died and promised full support for the injured. They also assured the public that safety measures would be reviewed to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

This heartbreaking incident has once again highlighted the importance of railway safety. As investigations continue, the nation mourns the lives lost and hopes for the swift recovery of the injured passengers.
