Barack Obama’s voice has once again earned him Emmy recognition, as the former president won Outstanding Narrator at the 76th Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Sunday.

The award recognised his narration in Netflix’s Our Oceans, a five-part series exploring global marine life. Obama’s measured tone guided viewers through stories ranging from humpback whales in the Pacific to walruses in the Arctic, with the “Indian Ocean” episode being highlighted as a standout.

Obama, 64, did not attend the Los Angeles ceremony, where comedian Jordan Klepper accepted the award on his behalf.

The competition was fierce, with other nominees including Sir David Attenborough, Tom Hanks, Idris Elba, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Despite their reputations, Obama’s narration style resonated strongly with judges, earning him the prize.

This latest honour adds to Obama’s growing record in documentary narration. He previously won Emmys for Our Great National Parks in 2022 and Working: What We Do All Day in 2023.

The series was produced by the team behind Our Great National Parks and utilised advanced underwater filming technology to bring hidden ocean worlds to life.
