Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is in good health after briefly collapsing during an official reception in Ankara, Turkey. The incident happened when the 73-year-old president was being welcomed by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at a formal ceremony.
As President Tinubu walked past a line of soldiers and dignitaries, he suddenly stumbled and fell to his right side. People nearby quickly rushed to help him. Within seconds, he was back on his feet and standing beside President Erdogan. The meeting between the two leaders continued as planned.
An aide to the president, Sunday Der, confirmed that President Tinubu was not injured and was able to carry on with his official programme. He said the president was stable and did not suffer any health problems from the fall.
Videos of the moment were quickly shared on social media, causing concern among Nigerians and people around the world. Many users expressed relief after seeing the president standing again and continuing the event normally.
This is not the first time President Tinubu has had a public fall. In June 2024, he also stumbled during a public appearance. At that time, he made a light joke about the incident, saying people thought he was performing a popular dance move. His aide had described it as a “mild misstep.”
That earlier incident also received sympathy from many people, including opposition leader Atiku Abubakar, who called it an “unfortunate incident” and wished him well.
President Tinubu is healthy and safe. No medical emergency was reported, and there was no delay in his diplomatic schedule.
The Turkish visit remains on track, and both countries continue their bilateral talks as planned. Supporters and citizens have shared prayers and good wishes for the Nigerian leader’s health.
The brief fall caused concern, but authorities confirmed there is no danger to the president, and his official duties are continuing normally.
