Pakistan has entered into formal diplomatic relations with the Pacific island nation of Micronesia, pledging to work together on shared priorities.

The agreement was finalised in New York, where Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Aasim Iftikhar Ahmad, and Micronesia’s Ambassador, Jeem S. Lippwe, signed a joint communiqué. The signing took place at Pakistan’s UN Mission, with senior diplomats, including Ambassador Usman Jadoon, in attendance.

Ambassador Ahmad said the decision to formalise ties on Pakistan’s Independence Day carried symbolic value. He pointed out that the partnership would pave the way for cooperation in areas such as climate change, capacity building, and peace promotion. He added that Pakistan now joins 99 other nations with which Micronesia has diplomatic relations.

Ambassador Lippwe described the occasion as an honour for Micronesia, commending Pakistan’s role at the UN and expressing hope for a strong and lasting partnership.

Prior to the ceremony, the two ambassadors discussed areas where the two countries could collaborate, particularly in multilateral settings.
