Tensions in the Middle East have sharply intensified following Iran’s extensive drone attack on Israel, seen as a direct response to Israeli airstrikes that reportedly killed senior Iranian military leaders and nuclear scientists.
Citing global media outlets, over 100 Iranian drones were launched toward Israeli targets late Friday. Israeli military sources claimed that most of the drones were intercepted by air defense systems. In preparation for possible further attacks, Israeli hospitals activated underground emergency wards, while operations at Ben Gurion Airport were suspended indefinitely.

The escalation follows a major Israeli aerial offensive earlier this week. Reports suggest nearly 200 fighter jets struck over 100 targets across several Iranian cities, including Tehran, Isfahan, and Natanz. Arab media indicated the strikes occurred in multiple waves and hit both military and civilian infrastructure, including nuclear facilities.
Iran confirmed the deaths of top commanders such as Major General Mohammad Bagheri and IRGC chief Hossein Salami. Two leading nuclear scientists, Dr. Mohammad Mahdi Tehranchi and Dr. Fereydoon Abbasi, were also reported killed. The leadership vacuum prompted swift appointments by Iran’s Supreme Leader, with General Ahmad Vahidi taking command of the IRGC and Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari named acting Chief of Staff.

While fears of a nuclear fallout emerged, the IAEA stated that radiation levels at Iran’s nuclear sites remained stable.
Iran’s Foreign Minister condemned the Israeli action as a breach of international law and warned of a strong response. The IRGC echoed this sentiment, vowing to defend the nation’s dignity.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump acknowledged awareness of the Israeli operation but denied American involvement. He stressed U.S. support for Israel and urged Iran to return to diplomacy.
