Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has issued a strong warning, saying that any attack on the country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, would be treated as a declaration of war against Iran.
In a message shared on social media platform X, President Pezeshkian said that harming the supreme leader would cross a red line. He stated that such an action would not only target one person but would be seen as an attack on the entire Iranian nation.
His remarks appeared to respond to growing international speculation that former US president Donald Trump may be considering steps to remove or target Iran’s top leadership. Pezeshkian made it clear that Iran would respond strongly to any such move.
“An attack on the great leader of our country is equal to a full-scale war with the Iranian people,” he wrote. The statement reflects rising tensions between Iran and the United States amid ongoing regional instability.
The Iranian president also spoke about the recent protests across the country. He blamed the United States and its allies for unrest that has continued for the past two weeks. Thousands of demonstrators have died during clashes linked to the protests.
Pezeshkian said that economic pressure and public suffering in Iran are not accidental. He claimed that long-standing US sanctions are a major reason behind the hardships faced by ordinary Iranians. He described the sanctions as unfair and inhumane.
“If our people are facing difficulties in their daily lives, one of the main causes is the continued hostility and sanctions imposed by the US and its partners,” he said.
Iran has repeatedly accused Western countries of interfering in its internal affairs. The latest statement shows that Tehran is taking a firm position amid rising tensions and warnings of further escalation.
Observers say such strong language signals that relations between Iran and the US remain highly strained, with little sign of improvement in the near future.
