India’s parliament witnessed a fiery exchange on Monday when Congress leader Rahul Gandhi challenged the government over the suspension of Operation Sindoor—a military action targeting Pakistan-based threats.
During the special Lok Sabha session, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh disclosed that the Indian Air Force had successfully struck several targets across the border on May 10. He added that after these strikes, Pakistan’s military leadership reached out, pleading for a halt in hostilities.
According to Singh, Pakistan’s DGMO called his Indian counterpart and made an emotional request to end the strikes, following which the Indian side agreed to a ceasefire. Singh emphasised that India’s goal was never full-scale conflict, but a focused counterterror operation.

As Singh elaborated on the events, Gandhi cut in with a pointed question: why was the operation halted if it was achieving its objective? The interruption stirred unrest among treasury benches, prompting Singh to call for order and suggest that Gandhi listen to the full explanation.
Later, Congress leaders intensified criticism, asserting that the government had prematurely stopped a successful mission. Deputy leader Gaurav Gogoi questioned whether the ceasefire decision was influenced by international actors, pointing to statements made by Donald Trump, who had previously claimed credit for de-escalating Indo-Pak tensions.
Gogoi added that the entire country—including the opposition—stood united behind the government, making the decision to end the operation without full explanation even more puzzling.
