The Embassy of Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has issued a strong advisory for Pakistani nationals living in the country, urging them to follow the UAE’s newly implemented media laws to avoid serious legal consequences.

This guidance comes in response to the UAE Cabinet’s new media regulation framework, which officially took effect on 29 May 2025. The regulation outlines 20 categories of violations that apply to individuals, media outlets, and online platforms.

The embassy has emphasized that breaches of these regulations could result in substantial fines. Penalties range from AED 5,000 to AED 1 million, depending on the nature of the offence. Offences include insulting religious beliefs, disrespecting national symbols or leaders, promoting terrorism or sectarianism, spreading false or misleading content, and violating privacy or children’s rights.

Pakistani residents have been reminded to be cautious when posting or interacting on social media. The embassy has advised the community to avoid sharing, liking, or commenting on any material that could be interpreted as offensive or against UAE laws.

The public notice also urged Pakistanis to respect the country’s legal system, traditions, and cultural values. Officials believe this proactive reminder will help prevent unintentional violations and protect community members from severe repercussions.
