A fresh spell of monsoon rain began on Monday in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, bringing light to heavy rainfall across several areas.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasted that the rains are likely to continue until July 25, with more wet weather expected across Punjab’s Potohar region, including Jhelum, Attock, and Chakwal.

In anticipation of the rainfall, emergency preparations were already underway. The Flood-Rain Emergency Control Room has been activated at the Commissioner Rawalpindi Division’s office to closely monitor water levels in storm drains across six districts.

Rescue 1122 had issued a high alert ahead of the rain, warning of the risk of urban flooding. Special rescue teams have been deployed across both cities and surrounding areas.

According to District Emergency Officer (DEO) Sibghatullah, boats and essential equipment have been placed at key locations like the Soan River to respond swiftly to any flood-related incidents.

He confirmed that a rain emergency has officially been declared in Rawalpindi, and Section 144 is now in effect, restricting public actions that may worsen drainage issues.

Citizens have been advised not to dispose of garbage or construction waste into storm drains, as this could block water flow and lead to urban flooding.
