LAHORE: The city of Lahore experienced a significant shift in weather after a record-breaking 136 millimetres of rainfall was recorded in just eight hours, according to the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA). The downpour brought welcome relief from the intense summer heat but also raised concerns of urban flooding in several low-lying areas.

According to WASA data, Lakshmi Chowk received the highest rainfall at 178 mm, followed closely by Nishtar Town with 177 mm, and Pani Wala Talab with 167 mm. Other areas also recorded substantial precipitation: Gulberg (141 mm), Upper Mall (121 mm), Mughalpura (127 mm), Tajpura (117 mm), and Chowk Nakhauda (131 mm). Rainfall at Jail Road stood at 119 mm, while the Lahore airport area registered 60 mm.
Additional rainfall figures included:
- Iqbal Town: 162 mm
- Samanabad: 149 mm
- Johar Town: 133 mm
- Qurtaba Chowk: 139 mm
- Farukhabad: 132 mm
- Gulshan Ravi: 128 mm
The widespread showers not only improved the overall weather conditions but also disrupted traffic flow and drainage systems in some parts of the city.

Meanwhile, heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning was also reported in several other cities across Punjab, including Sialkot, Gujrat, Chiniot, Kasur, Ferozewala, and Sargodha. Towns such as Daska, Narowal, Hafizabad, Safdarabad, Wazirabad, and Sukhiki also experienced similar weather, affecting both urban and rural areas.
In Wazirabad, the rainfall was accompanied by strong winds, adding to the shifting weather patterns being witnessed in the region. Narowal and its surrounding areas also reported a noticeable dip in temperature, making the weather more pleasant.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and local rescue teams have been directed to remain on high alert in light of the ongoing heavy rainfall across Punjab.
