Actor shares how they saved penny by penny to buy the now-glorious mansion in a shabby state

Shah Rukh Khan, the renowned Bollywood actor, has opened up about his iconic residence, Mannat, and how it took great effort to transform it into a warm and welcoming home. While fans perceive Mannat as a luxurious sea-facing mansion in Mumbai, Shah Rukh and his wife Gauri had to start from scratch after purchasing it, as they were financially strained. During the launch of Gauri Khan’s new coffee table book, My Life in Design, Shah Rukh shared the fascinating story of their journey to make Mannat their own.

Coming from Delhi, where bungalows were commonplace, Shah Rukh explained that the real estate dynamics in Mumbai were vastly different. Mumbai’s soaring property prices surprised them, as even apartments were exorbitantly expensive. Initially, the couple lived in a modest rented home in Mumbai, while Mannat remained a distant dream. But their ambitions knew no bounds, and they managed to accumulate enough funds to purchase Mannat, although it was far beyond their financial capacity. The mansion was in a dilapidated state and required extensive renovations. Shah Rukh humorously admitted that they were financially strapped and couldn’t even afford furnishings. However, they engaged an expensive designer who eventually became the catalyst for Gauri’s debut as an interior designer, turning Mannat into a masterpiece.

Shah Rukh’s favorite spot in Mannat surprised many. Contrary to popular belief, it is not the bathroom but the library. The library serves as his personal office, offering a serene atmosphere for reading and reflection. While it has been a while since he delved into a book, Shah Rukh appreciates the intellectual and cool ambiance of the space.

In addition to sharing insights into Mannat, Shah Rukh revealed some family traditions. The Khans prioritize having dinner together, considering it a non-negotiable routine. The family gathers, enjoys a wholesome meal, and discusses their daily experiences. Shah Rukh humorously shared that their unanimous verdict at the end of each meal is always, “It was a satisfying day!” Gauri firmly believes that satisfaction equals happiness.

The story of Mannat is a tale of perseverance, creativity, and a touch of glamour. Shah Rukh and Gauri’s journey from humble beginnings to creating a lavish paradise showcase their determination to turn their dreams into reality. Mannat stands as a testament to their hard work and vision, leaving an indelible mark on Mumbai’s skyline.
