inDrive Joins Forces with Police to Dismantle Courier Scam Targeting Customers

In a decisive move to protect its users and uphold platform safety, inDrive, the global mobility and urban services platform, in close collaboration with Lahore Police, successfully took down a criminal network that was targeting customers. The group, which had been impersonating inDrive drivers to loot unsuspecting users, has now been arrested. Most of the stolen items have been recovered and are currently being returned to their rightful owners.

The ringleader of the group was a former franchise owner of a ride-hailing platform that recently exited the Pakistani market. Investigations revealed that he had leveraged his prior access to driver records to exploit loopholes in courier verification across digital platforms.

The operation, led by SHO Gulberg Lahore, Taimoor Abbas, followed days of surveillance and digital tracing. Police arrested four suspects – Faisal, Farhan, Kashif, and Waleed – and recovered stolen electronics, clothing, and other items worth hundreds of thousands of rupees, along with two unlicensed pistols.

“This operation was successful because of the swift cooperation from inDrive’s team,” said Taimoor Abbas, SHO Gulberg Lahore. “They provided the digital trail we needed to trace and arrest the suspects. These kinds of partnerships between tech companies and law enforcement are critical in today’s environment, where criminals are using digital platforms to commit fraud.”

Over the past several months, inDrive has introduced stricter ID checks, advanced fraud detection tools, and quicker safety response protocols. The company’s internal investigation team worked hand-in-hand with law enforcement, mapping complaint patterns, freezing accounts, and providing actionable data that led to the suspects’ arrest.

“We’re fully aware that the landscape of ride-hailing is changing and we’re changing with it,” said Awais Saeed, Country Head, inDrive Pakistan. “As scammers evolve, so must we. For every attempt to misuse our platform, we are building smarter, faster systems to detect, prevent, and respond. This incident reinforces our commitment to staying one step ahead, to protect our customers and ensure the integrity of our platform.”

As scams across platforms grow more sophisticated, inDrive is scaling up its safety framework, including expanded in-app safety tools, transparent onboarding practices, and rapid incident resolution for both passengers and driver-partners. The company also emphasized the importance of official reporting through its app to ensure a fast and accurate response.

“We’re seeing a rise in unauthenticated claims online, and while we welcome genuine feedback, it’s crucial to separate facts from fiction,” Saeed added. “We encourage all users to report issues through our verified in-app channels so we can take timely, informed action.”
