Sam Billings, the England cricketer representing Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), recently responded to a provocative question posed by a Pakistani journalist.
The reporter asked Billings to compare the PSL with the Indian Premier League (IPL), a question that has often been a hot topic in cricket discussions.
Billings, however, took the opportunity to emphasize IPL’s undisputed position at the top of global T20 cricket.
He suggested that it was “hard to look past the IPL” as the premier competition in the world.

While acknowledging the competitive nature of other leagues like the PSL, he firmly stated that no other T20 tournament could match IPL’s level of glamour and prestige.
He also remarked that leagues in England and Australia, such as the Big Bash, were working hard to challenge the IPL but were still “behind.”
This was not the first time a Pakistani journalist attempted to create a buzz with a comparison involving India.
A few weeks ago, Karachi Kings’ captain David Warner was asked about facing criticism from Indian fans after choosing to play in the PSL despite going unsold in the IPL.

Warner was quick to dismiss the claim, stating that it was the first time he had heard of such backlash.
He explained that scheduling issues had prevented him from joining the PSL earlier but was now focused on leading his team and aiming for a title win.
As for Billings’ performance in the PSL, he has had a mixed run so far. In three appearances for the Qalandars, he scored 69 runs, which included a half-century and a duck.
Despite the ups and downs in his personal performance, the conversation around IPL and PSL continues to dominate discussions in the cricket world.
