Ross Taylor is set to make a comeback to international cricket, this time representing Samoa in the Asia-East Asia-Pacific T20 World Cup 2026 Qualifier in Oman. His selection was confirmed on Friday when officials named him in Samoa’s squad.

Sharing his excitement on Instagram, Taylor said it was a “huge honour” to represent his heritage, culture, village and family. He qualifies to play for Samoa through his mother, who is of Samoan origin, while also holding New Zealand citizenship.

Taylor had retired from New Zealand duty in April 2022 and, after completing the required three-year stand-down period, became eligible to switch his allegiance. His return marks a new chapter in his illustrious cricketing journey.

Over his 16-year career with the Black Caps, Taylor amassed 18,199 runs across all formats, including 7,683 runs in 112 Tests, 8,607 runs in 236 ODIs and 1,909 runs in 102 T20Is, making him one of New Zealand’s most celebrated batsmen.
