The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has suspended its Director International, Usman Wahla, over his alleged failure to respond promptly to a controversial incident during the Asia Cup involving the Indian team and match referee Andy Pycroft.
According to sources, Wahla came under scrutiny for not taking timely action when the Indian players reportedly declined to shake hands with their Pakistani counterparts after the match. Referee Andy Pycroft was also accused of instructing teams and media officials to avoid handshakes and prevent the matter from being documented.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi reacted sharply, underscoring that Pakistan’s dignity was above all else. “For me, there is nothing more important than my country. The honor and dignity of Pakistan cannot be compromised,” he stated.

The suspension followed PCB’s formal protest to the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). In its letter, the board described Pycroft’s actions as a violation of both the ICC Code of Conduct and the MCC Laws of Cricket, calling it an affront to the spirit of the game.
The incident has sparked heated debate in cricketing circles, with analysts suggesting that PCB’s strong stance signals a more assertive approach in defending national pride on the global stage.
