Hafeez Speaks Out on PCB Politics
MT Default Temp 2025 04 17T124546.805

Former Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has sparked conversation with a candid Q&A session on social media platform X, offering his views on cricket administration, player development, and team strategy.

Addressing a fan’s question about political interference in cricket affairs, Hafeez suggested that appointments at the top level of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) were often politically driven.

He hinted that the role of PCB chairman was typically filled through connections rather than merit.

When asked why he had not taken on a coaching or mentoring role within the board, Hafeez responded with humour, saying he was currently enjoying some time off, describing his status as “M minus one.”

Hafeez, who briefly served as team director, also praised upcoming batters Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub.

He described them as promising stars and expressed hope that they would stay focused on their careers and avoid off-field distractions.

Reflecting on Pakistan’s inconsistent form in recent months, Hafeez admitted it was painful to watch the team struggle but reaffirmed his unconditional support.

Speaking about Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, Hafeez recognised both players as important members of the squad who had helped Pakistan win key matches.

However, he stressed that they needed to improve certain aspects of their game to stay effective at the highest level.

He also condemned the online criticism aimed at Rizwan over his English-speaking skills, calling the mockery unfair and unnecessary.

When asked what message he would offer to Babar, Hafeez kept it brief, advising the batter to “keep learning.”

Looking ahead to the ICC T20 World Cup in 2026, Hafeez identified Saim Ayub as a potential opener, underlining his strong faith in the young left-hander’s future role in the national team.
