The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled the schedule for the upcoming U19 Cricket World Cup 2024, set to captivate cricket enthusiasts with 41 matches hosted across five venues in South Africa. This marks the 15th edition of the prestigious event, taking place in January and February. Last month, the ICC announced South Africa as the new host nation, replacing Sri Lanka due to breaches in obligations. The tournament will witness intense competition among 16 teams, categorized into four groups, vying for supremacy in the U19 cricket arena.
In a strategic move, the ICC opted for South Africa as the host nation for the U19 Cricket World Cup 2024, following Sri Lanka Cricket’s (SLC) suspension. The ICC Board took this decision due to SLC’s failure to independently manage its operations without government interference, leading to a breach of membership obligations. The move ensures that the cricketing extravaganza continues to showcase young talents on the global stage, fostering the spirit of competition and sportsmanship.
The participating teams are divided into four groups, each featuring cricket powerhouses and emerging cricketing nations. Group A comprises India, Bangladesh, Ireland, and the USA, setting the stage for a diverse array of cricketing styles. In Group B, England, South Africa, West Indies, and Scotland will compete fiercely for a spot in the Super Six phase. Group C includes Australia, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, promising intriguing matchups. Group D, featuring Afghanistan, Pakistan, New Zealand, and Nepal, adds an element of unpredictability to the tournament.
