England batter Harry Brook has been banned from participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the next two seasons after pulling out of the 2025 edition.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the decision and informed the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) of the ban.
According to reports, Brook’s withdrawal was made at the last minute, despite being aware of the IPL’s policy regarding overseas players skipping a season after securing a contract.
A BCCI official stated that both Brook and the ECB had been officially notified, emphasizing that players were informed of this rule before registering for the IPL auction.
As per the new policy, any player who enters the auction and later withdraws before the tournament begins faces a two-year ban from both participation and future auctions.
Brook was signed by Delhi Capitals for INR 6.25 crore in the 2024 mega auction but decided to opt out to focus on his commitments with the England team.
The 25-year-old stated that stepping away from the IPL was a tough decision, but he needed time to recharge after a demanding period in his career.
He previously withdrew from the 2024 season due to a family bereavement.
Brook made his IPL debut in 2023 with Sunrisers Hyderabad, scoring 190 runs in 11 matches, including a century.
