Former Indian cricket great Sunil Gavaskar has criticized the performance of Pakistan in the Champions Trophy 2025.

The Men in Green eliminated in the group stage after losing their first two games against New Zealand and India.

In an interview, Gavaskar remarked that current team lacked the strength to challenge even the second-string Indian team.

He suggested that Pakistan would struggle to compete against India’s bench players, highlighting a significant gap in team depth.

He also pointed out the lack of intent from Pakistani batters, recalling how the aggressive start from Rizwan quickly faded.

He noted that after hitting a boundary off the first ball, Rizwan and the other batters became overly defensive, failing to rotate the strike.

The Indian spinners, he observed, completed their overs swiftly, while Pakistan’s batters showed little urgency.

He noted that while the IPL and Ranji Trophy strengthen the depth of India, Pakistan has failed to produce top batters despite the PSL.

Pakistan, co-hosting the tournament, became the first team alongside Bangladesh to be eliminated.

The Green Shirts, who won the title in 2017 under Sarfaraz Ahmed, suffered back-to-back defeats.
