Date and Venue Revealed For Asia Cup 2025

The Asia Cup 2025 is expected to take place from 8 to 28 September, with an early window from 5 to 10 September reserved for the initial round of matches. Though the full schedule is yet to be confirmed, reports suggest the much-awaited India-Pakistan clash may happen on 7 September.

This edition of the Asia Cup will be played in the T20 format as preparation for the 2026 T20 World Cup, which India and Sri Lanka are set to co-host in February.

Eight teams are likely to feature in the tournament: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, UAE, Oman, and Hong Kong. The format will include a group stage, a Super Four round, and a final.

While India was originally named host, the event is now likely to be moved to the UAE due to political tensions between India and Pakistan. Despite being awarded the hosting rights, India may not stage any matches after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) declined to send its team across the border.

Both the PCB and the BCCI had earlier agreed not to play in each other’s countries, making a neutral venue necessary. Dubai and Abu Dhabi are the leading options, given their strong history of hosting events like the IPL and previous Asia Cups.

Other venues were briefly considered but dropped due to diplomatic concerns, including strained ties between India and Bangladesh and previous event disruptions.

Officials from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), including representatives from BCCI, PCB, and other member boards, are currently meeting in Dhaka to finalise the schedule and venue.

Meanwhile, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saika has denied speculation that India might skip the tournament, saying no such decision has been made.
