The International Cricket Council (ICC) has appointed Sanjog Gupta as its new Chief Executive Officer, marking a significant leadership change in the global cricket body. Gupta, who previously led sports and live experiences at India’s major broadcaster JioStar, becomes the ICC’s seventh CEO.

He takes over from Geoff Allardice, who stepped down in January after serving four years in the role. The ICC confirmed that Gupta was selected from a pool of over 2,500 applicants representing 25 countries, highlighting the global interest in the position.

ICC Chairman Jay Shah welcomed the appointment, saying Gupta brings deep expertise in sports strategy and commercial development—qualities seen as critical in guiding cricket’s growth on the global stage.

In his official statement, Gupta said cricket is entering a dynamic phase, with major tournaments expanding and new opportunities emerging, especially in the women’s game.

He also pointed to the inclusion of cricket in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and the rapid advancement of technology as key factors that could significantly accelerate the sport’s global reach.

Gupta’s appointment comes at a time when the ICC is focusing on expanding cricket’s footprint beyond its traditional markets and tapping into new audiences and revenue streams.
