Two individuals lost their lives in a bomb blast that was triggered by a remote-controlled device in the Momand area of Bajaur district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as confirmed by the local police.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sattar Khan, the explosion occurred near a pickup van, resulting in the immediate death of the driver. Additionally, a contractor who was traveling in the vehicle sustained injuries and was subsequently transported to the District Headquarters Hospital in Bajaur. Unfortunately, the contractor also succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical treatment.

The victims were reportedly carrying sand in the pickup van to a security check post in Bajaur when the incident took place. The motive and perpetrators behind the bomb blast are currently unknown, and investigations are underway to determine the exact details of the attack.

This tragic event comes just a week after a suicide bomber targeted a convoy in the Chehkan area of Dera Ismail Khan district, injuring 22 security personnel. The convoy was en route to the Minza area in South Waziristan when the attack occurred. The region was immediately cordoned off following the suicide bombing.

Pakistan has experienced a rise in terrorist activities, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, following the termination of the ceasefire between the government and the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in November. The security situation in the country has remained precarious, with various incidents of violence occurring over the past year.

According to the Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Maj Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, there have been a total of 436 terrorist incidents resulting in the martyrdom of 293 individuals and injuring 521 others in the past year. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa alone, 219 terror activities claimed the lives of 192 people, while Balochistan witnessed 206 incidents resulting in 80 fatalities. Punjab and Sindh also faced terrorist attacks, with 14 and 7 deaths reported respectively.

In response to the growing threat, the Pakistani army and law enforcement agencies have carried out 8,269 intelligence-based operations, leading to the apprehension of 1,378 suspected terrorists and the killing of 157 others.

As the situation continues to unfold, we will provide updates based on reliable sources and official statements. It is important to note that initial reports may sometimes contain inaccuracies, and our commitment lies in delivering timely and accurate information from credible sources.
