Okara violence

In a disturbing incident in Okara district’s Chak 3 village, three young men lost their eyesight after a violent confrontation linked to a cockfight. The clash reportedly began when the rooster belonging to the victims injured the eye of a rival group’s bird during the fight.

According to local reports, the injured party retaliated by attacking the three men, gouging out their eyes in a brutal act of revenge. This shocking violence has triggered widespread anger in the community, with calls for swift and strict action against those responsible.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, and the injured men have been admitted to a nearby hospital for medical care.

Cockfighting, though a traditional pastime in many rural areas of Pakistan, remains controversial due to its violent nature. The practice involves roosters fighting inside confined spaces, while spectators bet on the outcome. Despite its cultural roots, cockfighting is illegal under Pakistan’s Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, which bans organizing or participating in such events due to concerns over animal cruelty.

Animal welfare organizations have repeatedly condemned cockfighting, highlighting the suffering it causes to animals and urging for stronger enforcement of laws against this practice. This recent event underscores the dangerous consequences that can arise not only for the animals but also for the people involved.
