The Sindh Excise and Taxation Department has issued a reminder, urging motorists to replace outdated vehicle number plates with newly introduced future-designed plates.

In its notification, the department stressed that using old or yellow-colored plates beyond the given timeline would result in heavy fines and possible legal action under existing laws.

The directive applies to motorcycles, cars, and both commercial and private vehicles, making it mandatory for all registered owners in the province to comply without further delay.

Officials clarified that those who have not yet collected their new plates from designated centers must do so immediately, as authorities plan strict enforcement beginning next month.

The Sindh government had earlier announced its decision to introduce the new plates across the province, but many vehicles are still operating with outdated plates.

Last month, the government extended the deadline for obtaining new Ajrak-designed vehicle number plates from August 14 to October 31, following discussions in the assembly.

These plates, first introduced in 2021, carry advanced security features and are readable by surveillance cameras under the expanding safe city project initiative.

New collection centers are planned in Korangi, SITE Area, and Gulshan-e-Iqbal to ensure smoother plate distribution and better accessibility for motorists across Karachi.
