KP Assembly

The controversy over oath-taking for women on reserved seats in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly has reignited, with opposition parties voicing serious constitutional and democratic concerns.

Opposition leaders have begun consulting legal experts to pressure the provincial government into convening an assembly session. According to sources, they argue that further delays in administering the oath to elected women members violate court orders and the Constitution.

The opposition insists that prompt swearing-in is essential to uphold parliamentary integrity and ensure proper representation in the House. They have warned that any continued delay may trigger a constitutional crisis ahead of the Senate elections scheduled for July 21.

Legal experts aligned with the opposition have also expressed concern that the legitimacy of the upcoming Senate polls could be challenged if the assembly remains incomplete due to the pending oaths. The inclusion of all elected members is considered crucial for the credibility and fairness of the vote count.

Amid mounting pressure, the Speaker of the KP Assembly is reportedly considering summoning a session soon, in compliance with judicial directives. This move would help the government avoid potential legal challenges that could derail the Senate election process.

Political observers believe that failure to resolve the issue promptly could escalate tensions between the opposition and the provincial government, damaging public trust in democratic procedures and institutions.
