Punjab has announced a major decision for teachers holding BS degrees. The School Education Department has now approved BS degrees as equal to a 16-year qualification. This change allows thousands of teachers to become eligible for promotions.

In the past, teachers with BS degrees were left out of the seniority list, while only those with MA or MSc degrees were promoted. The new notification confirms that the policy will now apply to all institutions under the department.

Reports say that BS degree holders will also be included in the upcoming Departmental Promotion Committee meeting, where promotions will be decided according to the revised rules.

This move is expected to benefit more than 16,000 teachers across Punjab.

Officials believe this step will not only remove long-standing concerns of BS-qualified teachers but also improve motivation and performance in schools. Education experts say the decision reflects the government’s focus on fairness and modernization in the education sector, ensuring equal opportunities for professional growth.
