The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has launched a lab that can quickly detect meat quality and trace its source. The KP Food Safety and Halal Food Authority now has a facility capable of identifying whether meat comes from cows, buffaloes, or donkeys.

Officials said the lab was created to ensure meat sold in the market is not only hygienic but also halal. The state-of-the-art systems can test food samples in seconds, preventing the spread of unapproved or harmful items.

Besides meat, the lab will also examine milk, water, beverages, and spices. It is equipped with modern scientific instruments that are commonly used in top global labs.

The lab’s introduction is part of a broader plan to crack down on food-related crimes and increase quality control across the province. Officials said the technology would enable faster action against those violating food safety laws.
