ISLAMABAD: At least 907 people have lost their lives in the ongoing monsoon rains and floods across Pakistan, according to the latest report released by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). Another 1,044 people have been injured, while thousands of homes and livestock have been destroyed.
Punjab has suffered heavily, with 223 deaths and 654 injuries. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 502 fatalities and 218 injuries were reported, while Sindh recorded 58 deaths and 78 injuries. Balochistan reported 26 deaths and five injuries, and Gilgit-Baltistan saw 41 deaths and 52 injuries due to rains, flash floods, and landslides.
In Azad Jammu & Kashmir, 38 people died, while Islamabad reported nine fatalities during the monsoon season.

The NDMA further stated that 6,180 livestock have perished and more than 7,800 houses have been either partially or completely damaged nationwide.
With extreme weather conditions persisting, the NDMA has issued a severe weather alert for several districts in Southern Punjab, including Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Ahmedpur, Liaqatpur, Zahir Pir, Rajanpur, Khanpur, Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahim Yar Khan, and Sadiqabad. The authority has warned of thunderstorms, strong winds, and heavy rainfall over the next 24 to 48 hours, with risks of flash floods in hill torrents and landslides in vulnerable areas.
The disaster has once again highlighted Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate extremes, with authorities urging precautionary measures as relief efforts continue.
