Govt lifts ban on donkey skin export under new policy

The government of Pakistan has removed the ban on exporting donkey skins under a new policy. According to the Ministry of Commerce, the export will only be allowed through the Gwadar Free Zone.

The new rules state that only registered and approved slaughterhouses will be permitted to carry out this trade. This move aims to regulate the process and prevent illegal practices.

The latest notification cancels the earlier decision taken by the Economic Coordination Committee in 2015. The amendment has now been added to the Export Policy Order 2022.

Officials say the step is part of wider changes in trade regulations, while strict monitoring will be ensured to control misuse.

Trade experts believe the decision could attract foreign buyers and generate revenue, but they also warn that proper checks are needed to stop smuggling and ensure animal welfare standards are not violated.
