Gilgit-Baltistan Govt Helicopter Crashes Near Chilas

A Gilgit-Baltistan government helicopter crashed near Chilas during an emergency landing after developing a sudden technical problem mid-air. The aircraft caught fire upon hitting the ground. Four people were on board, including two pilots and two technical staff members.

Local rescue teams rushed to the scene to control the fire and provide assistance. The Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister expressed deep sorrow over the incident, offered condolences to the families of the crew, and ordered a full investigation into the technical failure.

The Chief Minister also directed authorities to take urgent measures to prevent similar accidents in the future. Aviation in Gilgit-Baltistan is particularly challenging due to the region’s difficult terrain, where helicopters play a crucial role in transport, emergency support, and aid delivery to remote areas.
