Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan and current chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has been arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in relation to corruption cases. The arrest is in connection to a case where Imran and his wife allegedly obtained billions of rupees from a real estate firm for legalizing a laundered amount of Rs50 billion that was identified and returned to the country by the UK during the previous PTI government.

The interior minister claimed that an Al-Qadir Trust was made to hide the corruption and bribery, with Imran and his wife being the only two trustees in the matter. The case alleges that Imran had dealt a loss of Rs60 billion to the national treasury and was getting property worth Rs6 billion registered in his name. The arrest was made in accordance with the law, and the government has no control over NAB, which is an independent institution.
