Police on Monday arrested prominent religious scholar Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza, taking him into custody under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO). The arrest was carried out on the orders of the Jhelum deputy commissioner, and Mirza was later shifted to jail.

Officials stated that the action falls under administrative measures permitted by the 3 MPO law, which allows authorities to detain individuals if their activities are considered a potential threat to public peace and order.

Alongside the arrest, authorities also sealed Engineer Mirza’s academy, locking down the premises and halting all academic and religious activities. The step was taken to prevent public gatherings at the location, officials confirmed.

Mirza, who is widely followed on social media for his lectures and commentary on religious issues, has previously faced controversy over his outspoken views. His arrest comes amid tighter government monitoring of religious institutions across Punjab.

Police added that further decisions regarding the case will be made in line with official procedures, while strict security has been placed around the academy to avoid any untoward incident.
