4.8 Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and AJK—No Damage Reported

A light earthquake shook parts of Balochistan on Thursday, with tremors felt in and around the Zhob region. According to the Seismological Centre, the earthquake measured 4.4 on the Richter scale.

The quake’s epicentre was identified around 60 kilometres southeast of Zhob, at a depth of 40 kilometres beneath the earth’s surface. No damage to life or property was reported, though the tremors caused momentary concern among local residents.

In a separate development, the Meteorological Department has forecasted an early start to the monsoon season across the country. The department’s Director General noted that monsoon rains are expected to begin nearly a month earlier than usual.

Typically, monsoon activity in Pakistan occurs during the months of July and August. However, this year, weather experts anticipate that rainfall will likely begin in June. Authorities have been advised to prepare for potential urban flooding and weather-related challenges, particularly in low-lying areas.

Officials urged citizens in vulnerable regions to remain cautious and stay updated through official weather alerts. The early arrival of the monsoon is being closely monitored to ensure timely response and preparedness across the provinces.
