The Sindh government has announced an electric scooter distribution program aimed at providing safer and more sustainable transport options for women. Set to begin next month, the initiative will distribute 1,000 electric scooters to female recipients through a lottery system.
The plan was finalized during a high-level meeting in Karachi, chaired by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. Officials confirmed that all necessary arrangements have been completed for the first phase of the program, which seeks to empower women by improving their access to independent and eco-friendly travel.

The scheme is part of Sindh’s broader efforts to modernize public transport while addressing gender-based mobility challenges. During the meeting, Memon highlighted that both the electric scooter and the upcoming EV taxi projects would not only enhance daily commuting options but also create employment opportunities for young people in the province.
Work on the electric taxi initiative is expected to begin in June, further supporting Sindh’s move towards a more inclusive and sustainable transport system.
The initiative marks a significant step by the provincial government in addressing mobility, environmental concerns, and gender empowerment through innovative transport policies.
