The Punjab Government has announced major price relief on cooking oil and ghee for the holy month of Ramadan. The decision aims to help families manage their household expenses during the fasting month.
According to officials, discounts between Rs. 10 and Rs. 16 per kilogram will be offered on all packets of ghee and cooking oil across the province. The agreement was reached after Special Assistant Salma Butt directed the authorities to ensure relief for the public. Following her instructions, Director General Punjab Food Authority Asim Javed held a meeting with ghee mill owners to finalize the price reduction.
Salma Butt assured citizens that high-quality and affordable cooking oil and ghee will remain available throughout Ramadan. She also said that if international palm oil prices fall further in the coming weeks, the authority will review and adjust local prices accordingly.
DG Asim Javed stressed the importance of improving quality standards in the market. He explained that modern systems are being introduced to ensure safe and healthy products. New cost-effective methods are also being used to reduce trans fatty acids in ghee and cooking oil. In addition, testing procedures are being upgraded to meet international standards.
Officials said that the joint efforts of the government and the ghee industry will protect consumers from unfair pricing. The goal is to ensure steady supply, better quality, and affordable rates during Ramadan.
The move has been welcomed by many citizens, who hope the price cut will bring real relief during the holy month.
