Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has filed a petition with the Supreme Court requesting an early hearing of his pending appeal against his disqualification as a lawmaker. The petition, submitted through Barrister Ali Zafar, comes at a crucial juncture as the PTI founder faces challenges to his leadership position due to the ongoing legal proceedings.

The plea emphasizes the urgency of the matter, stating that a process is currently underway to remove Imran Khan from his position as party supremo following his disqualification by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The petition argues that due to the pending cases challenging the ECP’s orders in the Islamabad and Lahore high courts, Imran Khan is unable to contest assembly elections or participate in any by-elections until his appeal is resolved.

Imran Khan had initially submitted his appeal to the Supreme Court on January 10, 2024, challenging his disqualification by the ECP. The former prime minister’s legal team is now seeking an expedited hearing, recognizing the significance of the case and its potential impact on the political landscape of Pakistan.

The petition highlights the importance of a swift resolution to the matter, as the ongoing legal proceedings have created uncertainty and instability within the PTI. Imran Khan’s disqualification has raised questions about his future involvement in the party’s activities and his ability to participate in upcoming elections.

The Supreme Court’s decision to grant an early hearing will be closely watched by political observers and the general public alike. The case has the potential to set a precedent for future disputes related to electoral disqualifications and the rights of political leaders to participate in the democratic process.

As the legal battle unfolds, the nation awaits the Supreme Court’s response to Imran Khan’s petition. The outcome of this case will undoubtedly shape the future of the PTI and have far-reaching implications for the political dynamics in Pakistan.
