The National Assembly on Wednesday passed the Income Tax (Amendment) Bill 2025 along with a set of other significant legislative reforms by a majority vote. The bills were cleared despite vocal objections from opposition benches, thanks to the ruling party’s numerical advantage in the House.
The Income Tax (Amendment) Bill was tabled by Finance Minister and passed after a brief debate. The bill aims to revise tax collection mechanisms and streamline income brackets for greater fiscal transparency.
Officials say the amendments will help strengthen tax compliance and reduce loopholes.

Five More Bills Cleared in One Session
In addition to the tax bill, the National Assembly also approved:
-
Extradition (Amendment) Bill
-
Pakistan Citizenship (Amendment) Bill
-
Civil Servants (Amendment) Bill 2025
-
Anti-Dumping Duties (Amendment) Bill
-
Citizenship Grant (Amendment) Bill
The citizenship-related bills were introduced by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, while the Anti-Dumping Duties (Amendment) Bill was presented by Jam Kamal.
“These amendments were long overdue and will bring more legal clarity,” said Chaudhry.
Despite opposition lawmakers raising procedural and content-related concerns, the bills were passed smoothly owing to the treasury’s dominant position in the assembly.
With the lower house approving these legislative changes, the bills will now move to the Senate for further debate and final approval. If cleared, they will become law following the president’s assent.
