Faiza Saleem founded The Khawatoons in 2016, and they have carved out a niche for women in Pakistan’s male-dominated comedy scene.

According to member Ashika Shaikh, the program seeks to give women with a comfortable environment in which to enjoy mature comedy and let go of their inhibitions. “We’ve had to work twice as hard to prove women can be funny,” she said, adding that the group has now discovered its voice and audience.

Faiza, Ashika, Jaweria Khan, Amtul Baweja, Nimra Ali Zaidi, Shanzeh Ishtiaq, and Zemal Amin are the current members of the group. With over nine years of experience performing at various venues in Karachi, including IBA City Campus and Habitt City, the ensemble is recognized for breaking boundaries and connecting directly with audiences.
