The Khawatoons, Pakistan’s first all female comedy company, will conduct a special ladies only event this Friday at District 19 in Karachi. The event, which runs from 7:30pm to 9:00pm on September 19, promises a night of new jokes, fast wit, and participatory humor. Tickets cost Rs 1,500 and are available online through Ticketwala or at the venue.

Faiza Saleem founded The Khawatoons in 2016, and they have carved out a niche for women in Pakistan’s male-dominated comedy scene.
According to member Ashika Shaikh, the program seeks to give women with a comfortable environment in which to enjoy mature comedy and let go of their inhibitions. “We’ve had to work twice as hard to prove women can be funny,” she said, adding that the group has now discovered its voice and audience.
Faiza, Ashika, Jaweria Khan, Amtul Baweja, Nimra Ali Zaidi, Shanzeh Ishtiaq, and Zemal Amin are the current members of the group. With over nine years of experience performing at various venues in Karachi, including IBA City Campus and Habitt City, the ensemble is recognized for breaking boundaries and connecting directly with audiences.

Friday’s show in District 19 is likely to carry on that tradition, with the audience in fits of laughter.
