Unidentified assailants have fired shots at the statue of late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in Haryana’s Sirsa district, triggering widespread condemnation and concern from his fans and family.

The incident took place in Sawant Kheda village, where the statue—installed by JJP’s Digvijay Chautala in 2023—was visibly damaged. A threatening video, showing the shooting, was reportedly sent to Chautala from an overseas number. It included a warning directed at Moosewala’s supporters.

The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility for the act, saying that people should stop portraying Moosewala as a martyr. They added that such tributes should be reserved for national heroes like Bhagat Singh or military martyrs.

Moosewala’s mother, Charan Kaur, reacted emotionally through an Instagram post. She said her son’s enemies were still haunting his memory and accused them of trying to erase his voice. She vowed that their silence should not be mistaken for weakness.

Moosewala, who was killed in 2022, had gained fame for his powerful lyrics and social commentary. He was known not only as a musician but also for his political engagement, having joined the Congress party months before his death.

Police have filed a case at Dabwali station and launched an investigation. The attack has also drawn political attention, with concerns raised about threats to Moosewala’s legacy and those honouring it.
