Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, met with Changpeng Zhao, the founder and former CEO of Binance, as part of a broader initiative to advance Pakistan’s position in the digital economy.
The meeting, held in Lahore, was attended by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Crypto Council CEO Bilal Bin Saqib. The high-level delegation discussed strategic priorities to position Pakistan as a leading regional player in Web 3.0, blockchain technology, and digital finance.

Nawaz Sharif lauded Zhao’s appointment as strategic advisor to the Pakistan Crypto Council, describing it as a “landmark step” in fostering innovation and financial technology in the country. “Meeting visionary individuals like Mr. Zhao opens new pathways for development and opportunity,” Sharif stated. “Pakistan is ready to embrace transformative technologies for a better future.”
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasised her administration’s commitment to digital empowerment, especially for the youth. “We are training our youth with IT skills to prepare them for the global digital marketplace,” she said. “Punjab is focused on knowledge-based innovation and entrepreneurship.”

Zhao, who is globally known for founding one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges, expressed his admiration for Pakistan’s digital potential and praised the leadership of Nawaz and Maryam Nawaz in promoting innovation.
Highlighting the country’s potential, Zhao noted, “Pakistan’s young population is tech-savvy and eager to innovate. With the right support and training, they can make significant contributions to the global digital economy.”

He also underscored the importance of building a framework for digital asset education, blockchain development, and entrepreneurship support, aligned with international standards.
Separately, Nawaz Sharif visited the Punjab Civil Secretariat where the Walled City Authority briefed him on 12 ongoing heritage restoration projects in Lahore. He directed the complete restoration of historical buildings and the removal of encroachments from key heritage sites.
