The Lahore High Court has suspended the seven year jail sentence of Amna Urooj, who was convicted in the kidnapping case of well known writer Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar. The court issued the suspension order after hearing her appeal on Wednesday and directed her release against a surety bond of five hundred thousand rupees.

A two-member bench of the Lahore High Court, headed by Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi, heard the case and examined the arguments from both sides before announcing the decision. The court said that the sentence would remain suspended until a final verdict is given in the appeal.
According to reports, Amna Urooj had been sentenced earlier this year after being accused of involvement in the kidnapping of Khalil ur Rehman Qamar. Her legal team later filed an appeal, claiming that she was wrongfully convicted and that there was insufficient evidence against her.

The suspension of the sentence means that Amna Urooj will stay out of jail while the case continues in court. The final judgment will be made after the appeal has been fully heard and the bench has reviewed all evidence.
