The animated film KPop Demon Hunters is creating waves worldwide, not only for its story but also for its music. Voice actors EJAE and Arden Cho, who brought the characters to life, shared that their singing was so powerful that some audiences believed it was produced using artificial intelligence.

EJAE, once a K-pop trainee under SM Entertainment, lent her voice to the character Rumi. She also performs Golden, the film’s chart-topping hit, which has become a global anthem of hope. “It feels like we’re all connecting together,” EJAE told Reuters, describing how the song has resonated across cultures.

Before stepping into this role, EJAE built her career as a songwriter and producer, working with top K-pop groups such as Aespa, Twice, and Red Velvet. For KPop Demon Hunters, she embraced her vocal range, adding powerful high notes that made Golden one of the year’s most streamed songs.

Arden Cho, who voiced Rumi’s speaking parts, said she was surprised at fans’ reactions. “Someone was saying that HUNTR/X voices were AI because it’s so good. We had to say, ‘No, we’re real. We’re here.’”

Released on Netflix on June 20, the movie follows a fictional K-pop group that battles demons while captivating fans with their music. The sing-along version of the film became a box office hit in the U.S. and Canada, earning $18 million and beating the horror movie Weapons.

The soundtrack is currently the highest-charting of 2025, with Golden and other tracks such as How It’s Done, What It Sounds Like, and Free dominating the global charts. Produced by Sony Pictures Animation, the film has already become a cultural milestone, blending K-pop energy with animated fantasy.
