Mumbai Police have filed a detailed 1,000-page chargesheet in connection with the violent stabbing of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, offering new revelations about the attack and the accused’s movements before and after the crime.
The shocking incident took place on 16 January 2025, when 30-year-old Mohd Shariful Islam Shehzad, a Bangladeshi national, allegedly broke into Saif’s Bandra apartment with the intent to rob. Armed with a knife, hacksaw blade, and hammer, Shehzad attempted to gain access to the flat.

According to the chargesheet, Shehzad initially tried entering through the main gate but was blocked by the building’s fingerprint security system. He then accessed a duct area at the rear of the building, scaled multiple floors, and entered the flat through the first floor before reaching Saif’s eighth-floor residence.
Upon entering the flat, Shehzad attacked the caretaker, Eliyama Philip, demanding money. Saif intervened and struggled with the intruder, resulting in Saif being stabbed multiple times in the back and torso.

Police reports confirm that Shehzad was unaware that he had attacked a celebrity until after the assault, at which point he fled the scene in panic. Forensic evidence confirmed that the knife fragments recovered from the scene, Saif’s injuries, and the accused matched, linking Shehzad to the crime.
Police also found matching fingerprints at the crime scene and the duct area and interviewed over 70 witnesses, including Saif, his wife Kareena Kapoor, their staff, and neighbors.

Saif was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent surgery on 21 January 2025. He has since been discharged. In response to the incident, heightened security measures have been implemented around Saif’s residence, and the couple has scaled back public appearances with their children, Taimur and Jeh.
