As Punjab’s smog levels worsen, particularly in Lahore, there is increasing discussion about whether the government will declare early winter breaks for schools. Due to dry weather, air pollution has increased and may get worse over the next few days, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

Smog caused schools to temporarily close in November of last year; as the situation worsened, the break was prolonged. Although they have not yet made a decision, provincial government and education department officials are keeping a careful eye on the situation this year.
According to sources, authorities may first close primary level schools to safeguard the health of the students if the air quality continues to deteriorate. Smog levels in eastern Punjab are expected to increase even further in the near future, according to a warning from the Meteorological Department.

Because the poisonous air can cause respiratory issues, coughing, and eye irritation, particularly in children, the elderly, and people with pre-existing medical conditions, environmental experts have advised people to take precautions.
